I’m just gutted at the news about Eddie Van Halen, another we have lost to Cancer. RIP to the legendary musician who singlehandedly changed the way we listen to rock guitar. This year just won’t let up will it.

It’s been 150 days since the Trump administration enacted its 15-day plan. One hundred and fifty days of promises of curves flattening in weeks, of the summer heat causing the virus to go away, of reopenings and paused openings and reclosings.
One hundred and fifty days of job losses in the tens of millions, of benefits to cushion the blow given and taken away.
One hundred and fifty days of protests and uprisings and of state violence to put them down.
One hundred and fifty days of cases rising ever higher and bodies stacking in numbers that are hard to fathom.
Again, the ineptitude of our administration to do even the least amount of work to manage this crisis is causing hundreds of thousands of lost lives.

We could’ve spent all summer enforcing mask use and social distancing. We could’ve sacrificed small pleasures for the greater good. We could’ve kept this from happening. But instead, we’re blindly barreling toward reopening even though we know teachers and students will die. We’re going to treat COVID the same way we treat school shootings. An unfortunate but unavoidable cost to doing business.

Why the Pandemic Is So Bad in America
How did it come to this? A virus a thousand times smaller than a dust mote has humbled and humiliated the planet’s most powerful nation. America has failed to protect its people, leaving them with illness and financial ruin. It has lost its status as a global leader. It has careened between inaction and ineptitude. The breadth and magnitude of its errors are difficult, in the moment, to truly fathom.
It is a disturbing display of ineptitude and disregard for life that fuels this failure. The administration failed on every level to contain or control this pandemic’s effect in the US. It didn’t need to be like this, and it’s not going to get any better until massive changes in our efforts take place.
Director Alan Parker has passed. I loved Midnight Express and The Wall among others but I’ve always had a soft spot for the challenging but very rewarding Birdy with Matthew Modine and Nick Cage.
